Tropical storm Milton hit Florida’s Gulf Coast and the beautiful Siesta Key barrier island was not spared. A hurricane of this category comes with maximum sustained winds of up to 140mph, destroying property and making residents flee the area.

As the storm hit the coastal areas and brought along with it flooding and storm surges, many residents as well as tourists were trapped. Siesta Key, within the county, is highly affected, something that can attributed to its reputation as a white sandy beach that attracts many tourists. Blackouts have been rampant throughout the island, and local officials are asking people not to commute and to flee to safer ground if they haven’t done so yet.

The storm affected homes, businesses, and infrastructural facilities in a very big way. Most of the coastal buildings on the island have been worse off or completely flattened, and many roads leading to the mainland are tense with cut-down trees and other materials. Government agencies are still making efforts to evacuate trapped civilians and to open the ways to it.

People are urged to keep off the streets and confine themselves to their homes until they are given clearance by the authorities. Shelters for the evacuees have been provided throughout Sarasota County due to the storm.

Siesta Key is one among the areas that are affected by Hurricane Milton, which has intensified as it heads inland, and residents must be preparing for some of the worst effects of this year’s most violent storms in Florida. Local authorities are calling on the community to remain safe and to listen only to legitimate weather reports.

The impact of Hurricane Milton on air travel

The calamity of Hurricane Milton in the southeastern United States persists, with greater pressure on air travel as well. The general hurricane impact on flight schedules and operations and airports is quite profound, especially for camp travelers, those booking cheap flights, or for last-minute deals. Check out the following to see how the storm has affected Flyers and what JetSaver passengers can expect.

Flight cancellations due to Hurricane Milton

Some of the large hub airports such as Miami International Airport, Orlando International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport are reporting many flight cancellations. These important centers have canceled thousands of flights due to hurricanes, gusty winds, extreme rain, and flooding. Since yesterday, more than 2,500 flights have been canceled throughout the region.

Low-cost carriers including Spirit Airlines, Frontier, and Southwest Airlines have been most affected due to their operational focus in these stations. Any passenger who intends to use these carriers with a view of booking affordable tickets should expect disruptions in the next few days.

How to rebook your flight

Airlines are allowing passengers to rebook for free on the canceled flights affected by Hurricane Milton. The great majority of airlines are permitting people to change their plans to another flight within a range of 7–14 days with no additional costs. Some have gone ahead and offered vouchers or travel credits for future flights. This flexibility is good news for passengers desperately searching for affordable flights as soon as the storm clears.

For rebooking purposes, it is important to move fast because several of the flights on the favorite routes may not be available. Since JetSaver is just a platform, it encourages customers to contact their airlines or log in to their accounts to effect changes.

Flight delays and re-routing

Even though your flight has not been canceled, be prepared for flight delays and possibly re-routing. Since many airplanes are being delayed, overlaid, or canceled, air traffic controllers have a problem controlling rearranged flights. Expect delays if you are in the southeastern American states or are planning to fly into or out of those states; you should check with your airline application or the FAA website.

Some passengers are choosing to reach their destination by skipping hubs on the storm’s trajectory. Two other gateways that are emerging now as low-delay options are Charlotte (CLT) and Tampa (TPA).

Best travel tips during Hurricane Milton

Stay Informed: Track your flight status regularly. There are airline app alerts to be updated on the fares in real-time.

Rebook Early: If you have a canceled flight, use free changes as soon as possible, and options for a new flight. Booking seats in future flights will be filled quickly.

Flexible Travel: Check whether you can buy a more flexible ticket or, at least, take travel insurance for your next trip. Especially in the case of those who have a desire to avoid hurricanes and other disturbances on the sea.

Alternative Routes: If you find that the airport of your preferred destination is greatly influenced, book flights to the nearest airport. This will require some more preparation, but it might pay off and save you a lot of time and trouble.

Will Hurricane Milton affect my future travel plans?

Hurricane Milton could be affecting flights for several more days as the storm headed inland, where it would disrupt key flight paths. They indicated that after the storm it may take a long time for airports to return to normalcy. That’s where JetSaver comes in, to ensure that you are on top of the next best available deals and or routes to your travel plans.
